!UPDATE!
1.11 is available. here is a quick list of fixes

: new relax method that should not cause any blowups.
:added an error if your obj has namespaces in it. Namespaces will cause errors with the tool. I'd advise going into the obj import options and turn off namespaces. Otherwise you will have to rename your object to work with the uv editor.

thats it for now.. links below.

1.1 Beta is live. Downloads on the bottom. As mentioned on the front page, I dissabled beta 1.0 to force people to use 1.1. 1.1 has a built in update system. You will be promted on future beta releases from now on.

Fixes:

.fixed a bug when importing objs and trying to use the tool.

.fixed a bug that did not allow you to add other objects into the uv editor

. small code fixes

Features:

.when you hold B down, the radius increases based off of the Y axis as well as X

. added text while holding down B to display the radius value

. changed the topology tab to "other" for easier read as well as another tool added

. added a uv_ratio tool in the "other" tab. I will create a new thread explaning how to use this since it is not in the documentation.

. moved the UV.bmp to the icons folder instead of the C: drive

. added a help menu that links to the help doc from inside of the tool instead of just the start menu

.changed the names of the plugins to get rid of periods. for example, the old plugin was Diamant_uv_8.5.mll . it has been changed to Diamant_uv_85.mll

I believe that is all for now. Again, any comments or requests are welcome.

I also added a .zip file that contains all the files in the installs. That way you can manually place them whereever you want. You must obviously modify the .txt file in the modules folder to point to the correct placement of the tool.

the same instructions apply for beta 1.1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are some brief things to look out for during the beta.

Installation instructions:

there are four files to download.. Maya 2008, 2008x64, Maya 8.5, and 8.5x64 .. if you install them all, they will both be installed to the same directory. There is only 1 uninstall if you do this. so if you uninstall with both installed, you will still have a tools3d folder in program file/ tools3d.. so just delete that if you want it uninstalled.

a file called UV.bmp lies in the icon folder in the tools3d directory.. that is where Diamant UV looks for the checkerboard file.. if you want to use your own checkerboard, just overwrite this file.. just make sure the name stays the same.

If you installed Diamant UV to a different directory besides the default (that means anything but the C:\program files\tools3d drive), you must modify a file to get it too look at the correct path.. That file can be found in your
Program Files\Autodesk\Maya version\ modules\DiamantUV.txt

even if you install Diamant UV to d:\ or any other drive letter besides C:\ you must edit this file!

open this with any text editor and modify the path to the modified install directory.. everything should work fine after that.

Installing Diamant UV on a 64 bit machine:
if you are installing Diamant UV on a 64 bit machine, you will have to move a folder to the correct path. This again, is the modules folder. Since 32bit programs get installed under a different program files, you will not get the correct install. the install places the modules folder in the Program Files(x86) directory. Check that directory, Program Files(x86)\Autodesk\Maya version\ , and you will see a modules folder, just move that to the normal program files under the same location and everything should work fine!

If there are any other installation problems feel free to contact me or post in the forum.

Once everything is installed, the first time you load Maya you will have to go to the plug-in manager, you will then see, probably at the bottom, DiamantUV 1.0 and the version of Maya.. just click load, or Auto load and it should load up fine.

NOTE!!!! The beta of Diamant UV requires an internet connection! If you do not have an internet connection you will get an error upon startup. Sorry, but this is the one requirement of this beta.. If you do have an internet connection, and you still receive an error.. please let me know and we'll try to get it fixed!

A new shelf called Tools3d will be created. In that shelf is an icon called UV.. that will launch the interface.

New Users

I created pretty nice documenation for the tool that goes over everything, minus the topology tool and uv_ratio, i will get to that later.. refer to the videos for how to use that. Please take the time to read it so you can take full advantage of Diamant UV. It has a lot of pictures to make it easier to read :) Diamant UV is only half as powerful when you dont know all the hotkeys. They really are pretty simple! Documentation is located under, start, All programs, Diamant UV 1.1 beta, then help..or under help in the tool interface.. uninstall is located under program files as well.

I would also recommend creating a simple sphere.. deleting the history ( since in the documentation history is bad!!) and start playing around with the selection tools and uv tools on that.. it will make it much easier to get the hang of the tools. Once you get the hang of them, you should see how fast and easy it will be to UV and modify UVs on anything.

Please post questions, concerns, ideas, etc in the forums. If you run into a bug, please try to replicate it or at least know exactly what you did so I can try to replicate it. Thanks!

Happy UV-ing!

Trying to install diamant UV but it doesn't appear on my self. you execute the install exe file, then go the modules/DiamantUV.txt and change the path (if necessary). Anything else I'm missing? I'm on the 32bit Maya 2008 platform.
